Belly fat is ugly. You don’t want it, I don’t want it, no one does. But, to stress over it is the worst thing you could do to yourself. No one talks about this as much as they should, but stress is a major reason why most people are unable to shake off the extra weight they’ve been trying to for years. So Before we get into the best exercises to lose belly fat, let me just talk a little more about stress and what it does to your body physically.
Stress, is the number 1 reason why most people cannot shake off that belly fat no matter how hard you try, how dedicated and organized you are with your workout routines and how well you control your diet. Stress is the reason why all your exercises to lose belly fat and diets may be going to a complete waste. When you’re stressed, the body releases a hormone called cortisol. The purpose of cortisol is to protect you by giving you extra energy, heighten your senses and keep you alert in the face of danger. When you’re stressed, your body thinks you’re in danger and releases cortisol. Since there is no real danger and cortisol doesn’t get used, it just doesn’t disappear. Instead, it forms fat around your abdominal organs to protect them from “the impending danger”.
This is just one of the ways that stress doesn’t let you lose belly fat. There are others which I cannot go into in this article. Bottom line being, you need to relax and not stress out about your weight before any exercises will have any effect on your belly fat. Having given you an idea on how dangerous stress is for belly fat, lets go over the best exercises to lose belly fat. :::
Well, its not as simple as going 1,2,3… here are the best ones…
As the world renowned expert Mike Geary says in his book Truth about Abs, the best exercises for losing belly fat and getting great looking abs are actually not ab exercises at all!
He argues that ab exercises only work towards building your ab muscles which is NOT the only thing you need to lose the belly fat and get the 6 packs. In fact, better built ab muscles is the last thing you need. Counter Intuitive? I know…
Here’s the thing. If you have belly fat, that does not mean you do not have well made abs inside that layer of belly fat. It just means it can’t be seen. Focusing only on ab exercises mean you are forming abs inside your layer of fat but it cannot be seen. In your zeal to get those six packs, most people will work themselves out with the exercises only to be frustrated because they won’t be able to see what they’ve created inside that layer of belly fat. Not surprisingly, this will mean giving up on the dream of sporting sexy 6 packs for most people.
So the real answer to 6 packs lies not in ab targeted exercises and workouts but in taking a holistic approach and reducing fat from the body overall. Most people already have well made abs inside the fat, they just need to get rid of the top layer of fat so that the abs could be seen. This interview where Craig Ballantyne interviewed Mike Geary is a great resource for losing belly fat and getting those 6 pack abs.
So the best exercises to lose belly fat are NOT ab targeted. Instead you should focus on burning fat all over your body and getting your total body fat percentage down so that you can reduce the fat on your abdomen and actually get down to where the real abs are.
this routine below is a really good starting point for you to start exercising. Once you’re comfortable with this, you can go on to more strenuous training to lose body fat. I got it from Mike Geary. It helped me and I’m pretty sure it would help you too. :::
the BEST exercise routine to lose belly fat while starting out…
Instead of going for the normal ab building routines that you see everywhere else, I’d like to steer you towards high intensity work outs that will boost your metabolism and the ability to burn fat, plus they will also work your abs simultaneously. in order to lose fat on the belly as well.
This routine does not consist of any ANY direct ab workout at all. Like I said, its geared towards burning your body fat overall while still giving your abs a hard workout indirectly.
Here’s the routine
- Renegade Dumbbell Rows
- Front Squats with Barbell
- Mountain Climbers on Floor
A good way to carry out this routine is to do about 5 sets of 5 reps each. I find that doing more sets of less reps is easier and usually gets the same results, plus also builds up your body for higher levels of strain.
This routine is explained in a lot more detail on Mike Geary’s website. Go here for a detailed explanation of how to carry out the routine, pictures and more on how to lose belly fat and get those 6 pack abs. Click Here…
